Safety & Wellbeing

Accidental death and injury is a major concern particularly for the more vulnerable members of society, the very young and the elderly.

We all need to recognise the physical and emotional cost to the individual, the knock on effect to family and community as well as the financial cost to our health services.

Many injuries could be avoided and the main aim of the project is to reduce the number of accidents happening in Kirklees.

Below are examples of some themes we coordinate, contributing toward this outcome

Kirklees Accident Prevention Forum

y Prevention and Reduction Information

Healthy Start
The National Healthy Start Scheme covers families who are in receipt of income support or certain other benefits; they receive vouchers to exchange for fruit, vegetables, milk and formulae milk and vitamin supplements.

The local scheme here in Kirklees provides vitamins to families not eligible for the National Scheme. The local vitamin scheme covers all families living in five of the seven Kirklees localities (Batley, Birstall and Birkenshaw, Dewsbury and Mirfield, Huddersfield South, Huddersfield North and the Spen Valley) regardless of any benefit criteria. This means all pregnant women can receive free maternal vitamin supplements and children from 6 months to 4 years of age, can receive free vitamin drops.

Please contact your Midwife, Health Visitor or Children's Centre for further information.

You can also contact the safety and wellbeing team for details of centres, clinics and chemists in your area involved in the Healthy Start Vitamin Scheme
