Injury Prevention and Reduction

Accidental death and injury is a major concern particularly for the more vulnerable members of society, the very young and the elderly.
We all need to recognise the physical and emotional cost to the individual, the knock on effect to family and community as well as the financial cost to our health services.

Many injuries could be avoided and the main aim of the project is to reduce the number of accidents happening in Kirklees.
Below are examples of some themes we coordinate, contributing toward this outcome

Kirklees Accident Prevention Forum - a strategic cross agency group meeting quarterly covering common aims, targets and monitoring

Safety Equipment Scheme - a referral scheme distributing safety gates, fireguards and smaller safety items such as socket covers and cupboard locks

Schools Injury Minimisation Programme
- Safety Rangers delivered to targeted primary and junior schools. Children experience interactive scenarios and learn by doing in a protected environment. Supported teaching materials and information provided

Injury Prevention and Reduction Information - Safety information, guidance and training to a coordinated range of services, maintaining information links to national and local safety campaigns.
