Reparation

Reparation is a partnership programme between the National Children’s Centre and Kirklees Youth Offending Team. Reparation is the compensation paid to a community by an offender after an offence has been made against the community. The Reparation Programme is based at Brian Jackson House and provides workshop based activities for young people aged 10-17 years old who have been involved in youth crime or are at risk of offending behaviours. Referrals are only taken from the Kirklees Youth Offending Team.

The ethos of the provision is to educate young people and to help address the harm that offending behaviour can cause. The programme aims to address the cycle of offending behaviour through education and the development of practical skills.

The workshop activities are to benefit the community at large as well as being victim led in consultation with the referring Youth Offending Team Officer.

Projects undertaken by the National Children’s Centre Reparation programme include;

  • Construction of Owl, Blue tit and Robin Nest boxes for the Dalton Grange
  • Restoration of the benches at Springwood car park
  • Various donations of nest boxes to the victims of crimes
  • Packing children’s Information Network (CIN) Leaflets

  Packing safety packs for new born babies, helping to drastically reduce the admissions of children and young babies to accident and emergency.
