ADHD/ADD Awareness Training
ADHD is short for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and we often relate ADHD
to
people, particularly children who are ‘always on the go’ or ‘can’t sit still’. Although
many
children find it
difficult to concentrate and pay attention to tasks this does not
necessarily
mean that they have ADHD. People with ADHD can learn to think about
how it affects their lives.
The session will look at:
- A definition of ADHD
- Trying to understand what ADHD means in everyday life
- Looking at strengths and weaknesses for people with ADHD
- Thinking about how we can help
Date: 7th June 2011
Time: 9.30am – 12.30pm
Cost: £75 per person (includes refreshments)

Autism & Aspergers Syndrome Awareness Training
Autism and Asperger’s are conditions that affect social skills, particularly interaction,
communication and imagination. Much work has been done to try to ensure that people with Asperger’s or autism are identified when they are young so that help and support, if necessary can be put in place. Different people have different skills but they may also find certain situations stressful and may need help to cope with these. There may also be difficulties if there are no set routines or structures in place or if a person with autism or Asperger’s is trying to work in a noisy environment.
In the session we will try to:
- Develop an understanding of autism and Asperger’s and how they might differ from each other
- Consider how autism and Asperger’s may affect people in their everyday lives
- Consider the strengths that people may have
- Talk about multidisciplinary assessments and support for people with autism or Aspergers.
Date: 21st June 2011
Time: 9.30am -12.30pm
Cost: £75 per person ( includes refreshments)

Dyspraxia Awareness Training
Dyspraxia is difficulties with movement and organising movements. This can have a big effect on people’s lives and sometimes they appear to be ‘clumsy’ or have difficulties because they drop things or always seem to be bumping into things. It can also mean
that they find social relationships difficult because they misjudge how close to stand,
when to talk etc.
As well as affecting movement and coordination, dyspraxia can also affect planning and organisation.
During the training we shall look at:
- A definition of dyspraxia
- Trying to understand how having dyspraxia might affect both children and adults
- Consider the affects on friendships and activities
- Thinking about ways to help and support people with dyspraxia
Date: 17th May 2010
Time: 9.30am – 12.30pm
Cost: £75 per person includes refreshments
